Rice, who enjoys the highest approval rating of any person in government right now, has repeatedly said she's not interested in the job. But a senior Republican strategist says she is positioning herself very prominently behind the scenes.

The selection of Rice would seem to help McCain offseat either a Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton presidency. It would also tie him even further to the Iraq war, but as many have pointed out, he's already tied to it.
