Another Animal

Hola,

Quick note from the music trenches, Another Animal's , "Broken Again", on Universal, is a new favorite among the airstaff. The band features Godsmack's Tony Rombola, Shannon Larkin, and Robbie Merill. The trio wrote forty songs in the absence of Sully Erna, for Godsmack IV. Fourteen of those were featured on the CD. The debut from Another Animal features Whitfield Crane of Ugly Kid Joe on vocals and a selection of songs from the twenty six that never made it to Godsmack IV. Catch them live opening for Alter Bridge, November 10th at Big Easy, if you still can. You better hurry (509) 325-SEAT or at www.rock945.com U Rock!

Cant say I didn't try...

When I spoke with Sam (drummer) from Chevelle , last Friday the 21st, I wanted to be sure to ask him about the firing of his and Pete's little bro Joe from Chevelle on July 10th 2005.....

Well now in retrospect I think perhaps I should have let "sleeping dogs lie"..Sam did seem to go on a bit of a rant about the "whole deal"..I was just trying to feel him out, to see if there was a chance, they might let Joe back in the band..
Not gonna happen..DARN!!! I had to do some major ass kissing after I asked Sam to go sign my petition to get Joe back in the band..Wow..take it from me, do not ask about Joe..or Thanksgiving 2005..or Chevelle becoming a 4 piece..anyways ..Sam was very nice. To hear the "secret" about the "secret" video for "I Get It"..get out your decoder rings..go to rock bits and scroll down to enjoy Sam from Chevelle..Cheers!!!!!

Miles and Myles

Went up to "NASCAR CREW CHEIF MIKE'S" graduation party last weekend in a gorgeous new house ontop a big hill near dragoon creek. The overlook was Spokane, clear to the valley, from maybe 30 miles away. We met "mrs. Mike" and the rents, A famous racecar driver from the North East, a stunt man from seven movies back in the Burt Reynolds days, Rollover Rich, (whose wife made mollasses chilli, yummmm) and it should be noted here that Mike fires that grill like a portable flamethrower... We watched the truck races in Dover on a flatscreen the size of the starship Enterprise's veiw screen, and then took his brothers Monte Carlo (#28) for a spin around the undeveloped property! Matt was alittle upset when he saw us driving his racecar on a dirt filled lot, but, man, What a celebration! And congrat-u-ations to crew-cheif Mike for he is now "specialist" Mike, and although we'll miss him round the old Team HALL garage and at those killer pit-road transport parties, we are very proud of him and proud to have him serve for US....

For the hour ride up (and 2nd hour back) we did a bit of digging thru the old car CD case, and we pulled out the old Citizen Swing CD's. Not knowning Myles would be sending us the advance Alterbridge CD Tuesday, we were really grooving on the "kennedy Jazz" of this forgotten Spokane Band. The 12yr old said "oh, dad, you're making us listen to mexican music"? Yes, Tremonti, The Myles-man DO Jam on the guitar... Myles Kennedy, the three or five time Spokane Axe MAN, Lets not forget. Great to hear that slide gui-fiddle throughout the NEW A.B. cd, But Imagine Alterbridge.. with a HORN section. You pretty much get the idea. Sure sweetened the appetite for Blackbird and let's just say we were NOT let down. Can't wait to see them again at the Big Easy on November 10th.

And what better opening band?

Cowboy Beav Bop

I was honored to be asked to be Best Man in a wedding last weekend in Montana. Of course I accepted, since it was my best friend of 11 years... then he told me the details...

The way he broke the news went as follows:

"In a few months, you're gonna have to buy some cowboy clothes."
"Uh, why?"
"Because your'e going to be the best man in my wedding on September 15th."

So I head over a couple days early for the rehersal and to buy what clothes I needed to fit in with the wedding party. For the first time in my life I had to dress like a cowboy. Now, I did grow up in Northwest Montana, but we were far from cow-folk. My mom was a child of the 60s and a rocker, and my stepdad works in the timber industry. I had never put on a pair of cowboy boots or a hat in my life. And now I am standing in Corral West Ranchwear trying on hats, most of which made my mom, girlfriend and daughter laugh out loud when I put them on. But I finally found one that fit and apparently looked ok, so that was that. A few times during the wedding day I startled myself at my own shadow, wasn't used to seeing this huge hat shadow so close to me (I rarely wear any kind of hat as it is). I also went to the local Goodwill to find boots, and they had ONE pair of boots; surprisingly they fit well enough and for $8.50 I couldn't pass it up (for those of you who don't know, a good pair of sh** kickers can be a sh**load of money). Then we went to JC Penney to get some new jeans and a button up shirt and we were on our way.

The wedding and reception were held at a campground, 20 miles from the nearest town on a dirt road. I got there about 30 minutes late to when the rehersal was supposed to happen, because about halfway up the dirt road my gas light came on in the car and I had to whip back around and go back to town and fill up. Fortunately for me nobody else had shown up by the time I got there so I was off the hook. The next day (wedding day) was a bit of a fiasco, which I hear is fairly normal for any wedding. People were rushing here and there to get all the last minute affairs in order, and I had brought my laptop to hook into some pawn ship P.A. system and speakers to play the music. After we finally got enough extention cord from the VW-sized generator hooked up, we tested everything, and guess what.... nothing coming out of the big speakers. We're about 30 minutes from crunch time at this point and there was much panic. We blew a breaker on the generator, had to rearrange cords here and there, and finally ended up having to play the wedding music off of a karaoke machine with one 8 inch speaker.. but at least we had sound. Turns out the speaker extension cords weren't the right Ohms so not enough power made it to the speakers, which we found out later when we moved the "sound system" (my laptop, the pawn shop mixer and a mess of cords and microphones on a rolling tool box) over to the "dance floor" (a wide spot on the campground road near a camp site). More on that later. Anyways the ceremony was on time and went very well. My friend's brother, who is a Marine, presided.

Then we went over to the reception area (another campsite with every picnic table from the entire campground moved in) and had our meal. I had to give the traditional Best Man speech, which of course I had rehearsed for...well basically I stood up and had no idea what I was going to say but somehow pulled it off. And at the end of the evening we played music and did some karaoke and danced and the younger crowd played hackey-sack. I got in on that for awhile, proving again that I was a horrible hackey sack player when I was younger and I'm even worse now. We got the big speakers working after realizing our issue, unfortunately they were too close to the sound system and every time we turned on a microphone there was feedback and all that.. All in all a good time.

So now I wish my friend and his new wife a long happy life together, and if the wedding is any sign of what's to come, they will have an exciting life together. I wish them the best, and as I promised a long time ago, when it's my turn, he will be standing next to me at my wedding. And I'll make him wear something other than cowboy garb.

If you want to see proof, go to my page at Rock Jox, scroll all the way down and check it out for yourself. CAUTION: May cause faintness, shortness of breath, or uncontrollable laughter!

Captains BLOG, stardate 0-9 1-6 0-7

Big shout-out's to all the folks who came down and donated a Coat-4-Kids at the Fairgrounds this weekend. Hope you had an equally fun time at the Fair, and make sure you save those Elephant Ears because we have got lots of BIG listening to do! My headphones aren't big enough for that incredible ANOTHER ANIMAL CD coming out on the 25th. Sully may need to take good long ride on his Harley, and let these puppies breathe! I heard he may be upset it came out so good. he he, naAAh- he's just busy doing the Book Thing, the Hollywood thing, the Movie thing, and the up-coming little starlette thing. So I dont think he's got time for missing the guys TOO MUCH (for a few weeks anyway). Besides... "B-F-G"

G.A. Says there's a good chance the "other" Animals may be on the ALTERBRIDGE tour. Hey,
speaking of ALTERBRIDGE, a personal note for MYLES KENNEDY: Your lyrics are giving me chills and A really bad case of "Itchy Ear".... I just can't scratch it enough. I gotta hear more!!!! RISE TODAY has been stuck in my head for about three weeks. What a BIG song, boys. Hope the rumours are true we'd love to see you here in your N.W. again. Also thanks for the invite in Florida, hope Johnny Damon paid for that couch. That's it for now, GO TONY STEWERT!

An Inconvenient Text

2 B R B or not 2 B R B....Thats a question?!! O M G!!! R O F L M A O..Texting is replacing the spoken word faster than the polar bears are disappearing. Two people in a bar would rather text each other than speak to one another!!!As we evolve, our vocal chords will shrink while our thumbs will become the size of barry Bonds' head! L O L!!!!!! I can see the movie now..." Silence of the man",the story of Hannibal Texter!!! Hundreds of years from now when those outer space guys finally show up,we will send a giant thumb out to greet them with a friendly and hopeful message....B F F!!!!!

Live longer... like a BRITISH ROCKSTAR

As reported the other day on Kraazy Aunt Karla's Rock Quickie, studies indicate rock stars die much sooner than the average person. But, Part B of that study is that British rock stars actually live longer than their American counterparts. Therefore, one must ask if perhaps the "Keith Richards Diet Plan" should be considered for our young up-and-comers. After all, this 60-something Brit rock icon IS the picture of health, is he not? ...

Perhaps Keith and Ozzy could make a workout video of some sort. Guitarist Zaak Wylde offers the following advice-"The secret to a long and healthy road tour is all in the supplemental backstage refreshment: a heady concoction of Pedialyte and Crown Royal." Perhaps.... though it should be noted he only PLAYS with British Rock stars so maybe it is a proximity effect, as in Ozzy-Ozzmosis?

Whatever the common threads, a detailed long-term / multi-tour medical study needs to be compiled and results further documented (complete with tour-rider, three month supply of brown M&M's, and the band's own finger sandwich line in the frozen-food isle). We, at THE PIT STOP, eagerly awaiting the self-help DVD set, can only offer up this toast; " to American Rock Band Longevity ... and good road-health... Cheers!"

Spokane's Rock Reputation

Hola,

With the addition of Big Easy and the efforts of other local venues, Spokane is now getting a steady stream of top notch rock talent. One thing is obvious. Once the bands discover Spokane, they want to come back again and again. Do you know why bands are going out of their way to play here? It's because YOU ROCK! Spokane audiences share a genuine passion and excitement for the music. Bands feed off that. It's what makes their job fun.
As a matter of fact, Static X is proving to the masses how much Spokane rocks. The bands entire new video "Cannibal" was shot at Spokane's Big Easy. Wayne was on Rockline Monday and confirmed that the footage was shot June 2nd at Big Easy in front of a sellout crowd. He said the footage may also be featured in an upcoming DVD. Wayne's "Hello Spokane" at the beginning, leaves no doubt as to where it was filmed. Check yourselves out in the new The Static X video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhbsrJrSFp8 . You sure look good when you rock!

Lyrics for "Fake It" (new Seether song)

Shawn Morgan does not drop a clean or sanitized version of "Fake It"..no it is quite obvious that Shawn will not be quieted when it comes to how he wants Seether to deliver their lyrics...so we have "Fake It" with all its blank spots and "edited" glitches because Shawn wants it to be heard as it is on the album..as it will be when Seether comes back to Spokane..and they will !!!!! As The Big Easy show was one of their best.. I will never forget Shawn putting on the womans bra over his shirt ,and finishing the song with it on...(of course 5 days later he was off the road and in rehab)..but hey, Amy drove him to it!!!! A big fat welcome back to Seether!!!

Shhhhh.... nobody wake Jeff Gordon

Big fun Monday at Daisy Dukes Doubleshots, thanks everyone for coming by, do we not have the cleanest wheels in the Pacific Northwest?? With "scrubbin' bubbles" like THAT it's no wonder why. Here's the "shout out" to Jay, and the ladies: Ashley, Emily, Anita, Jennelle, Terri, Meagan, Keirsten, Danielle & Heather! Make sure you see the photos elsewhere on this website, and look for the Latte' stand with NO DOORS on Appleway, now y'all come by y'hear???

Now ... on to the blog. Speaking of blowing doors- It's lap #94 California Superspeedway, #8 Dale Jr. has the lead, Ryan Newman (#12) is running a close second. Kurt Busch has gone to the pits under green but nobody I'm watching has followed. "Who do I root for in THIS pack?" I think to myself...

Jeff Gordon, meanwhile, who only needs to show up and maintain the first place points standing ... cruises comfortably back in the pack enjoying some tea and e-mailing pictures of his new baby to the in-laws while picking the color of his next trophy case, as he relaxes and tries to keep Jimmie Johnson from getting bumped into the championship from behind. Jeff hasn't placed better than 15th over the past three races and last time he led the race... Infineon, where he actually took a snooze heading into turn #9 on an inside curb with no help from anyone. I think he was actually daydreaming about his baby's new playroom he would build for the trophy case, and, forgot where he was (driving three car lengths in front of 43 cars and 120,000 screaming fans). Could this be a metaphor for the season? Win 1 race, coast top 5 rest of the time = cup? Hmmm, I thought that's why the CHANGED the format to begin with.

Then... SUDDENLY... from TWENTY-THIRD place comes TONY STEWART screaming by the outside and takes the checkered flag! With just 3 laps left, from 23rd to Finish-line! THIS is the man to beat. (and second place in points you'll note) Tony takes his time, is having fun, doesn't take any flack ... overcomes the negative, and captures the chance, again and again. I have learned to watch this bright orange silent runner waiting back a few cars in the smoke and debris, a man who can make 18th place a good place to sit and watch. Waiting. Ready to pounce like a cheshire cat~ big orange grin, glowing in the darkness of the jungle, deep and wild.

Now, what color to paint the trophy case for the baby room? Hmmmm, maybe Jeff SHOULD sleep on that for a little while more.

Sept. 4, 2007 (what an original and exciting title)

Hello there!

As you can see, we've added more fun and exciting stuff to Spokane's BEST Website! The pix are now arranged into 3 different categories, so it's alot easier for you to find the hot babes...uh..I mean..the pictures you're looking for. We did have some sort of major catastrophe with the Mosh Pit Allstars (good thing I kept a copy of the trading cards on my computer). They are back up, but I don't have any of the information (Fav bands, concerts etc.). So if you want your stuff put back on, throw me an email at beavis@rock945.com. Plus don't forget to check out the Concert link - not only do we put the REAL ROCK Concerts up, I find band bios and information AND the link to TicketsWest (not just their homepage, usually the link right to where you can buy the stubs for each show). And things will keep improving all the time - if you have any good ideas for the website let me know.

Blog ya later!
